2012 AT&T NATIONAL:
BACK IN SESSION
AT CONGRESSIONAL
The AT&T National returns to Washington, D.C., and historic
Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., this summer
after a two-year visit to suburban Philadelphia. As one of the
premier stops on the PGA TOUR®, it’s the perfect place to be
as the tournament provides its own brand of fireworks in an
exciting lead-in to the festive Fourth of July holiday.
The sparks will start to fly June 28 on the club’s Blue
Course, which has served as the challenging venue for three
U.S. Open Championships (1964, ’97, 2011) and the 1976
PGA Championship. The field includes 14-time major winner
Tiger Woods and defending champion Nick Watney.
To bring this on-course fireworks display to life, AT&T
employs its technologies to allow unprecedented tournament
coverage and access for media and fans. The Media Center,
for example, accommodates over 120 reporters and 24 photographers. It includes eight radio booths, 200-plus phones, and
tournament-wide VoIP, Internet and Wi-Fi solutions and support.
For fans on-site, the AT&T Digital Clubhouse serves as an
interactive lounge featuring AT&T’s
latest technology, including smart
phones, tablets and more. Mean-
while, the tournament’s Social
Media Club offers electronic and
online opportunities to directly
interact with the tournament
through contests and scheduled
prize giveaways. To connect via
social media, fans can go to
Facebook.com/ATTNational or
twitter:@attnational.
Thanks to the generous support of dedicated volunteers
and sponsors, the AT&T National has become a holiday
celebration that showcases the game’s talent, and generates
funds and awareness for the college-access programs of
the Tiger Woods Foundation and youth programs in the
greater D.C. area.
Another focus of the AT&T National is strong appreciation
and support for the military. The tournament’s tribute includes:
free admission for more than 30,000 military personnel; a
patriotic Opening Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, June
27; active military members serving as caddies on hole No. 17
as part of the Military Caddie program; and visiting Wounded
Warriors on a special VIP day.
In addition, the Lockheed Martin Military Pavilion, located at
the 17th green, is open to all military ticket holders Wednesday
through Sunday, and the Military Care Package Tent allows
spectators to prepare care packages
that will be sent to troops overseas.
Players and fans can also express
their appreciation of military service
members’ efforts and sacrifices by
writing personal messages on the
“We Salute Our Heroes” wall, a
touching tribute at the tournament’s
main entrance. AT&T National Media Center
