TOUR TALK // EDITED BY RYAN HERRINGTON
back got tired from
starting hitting balls
again. Then I played
the Qatar Masters.
I actually drove the
ball nicely, but putting
wasn’t that good.
Missed the cut there.
It’s nice to be back. It’s
nice to be back here in
America.”
With an 11-under
275, Goosen claimed a
T- 9 finish at Pebble
Beach and earned
enough money
($175,500) to be able
to play via major
medical extension
status for the
remainder of the year.
“I only had five
events to keep my
card, and I’ve done it
on the first one so
now I can focus on
the rest of the season
and playing well,”
said Goosen after his
final-round 69. “I
putted nicely. I’ve
gone back to the
short putter. My
touch, I would say,
was a lot better this
week. I mean, it was
a very worrying
stage six or seven
months ago. Now it’s
feeling great. I
normally don’t play
events that it’s cold
weather. If I can play
in cold weather, it can
only get better.”—J.M.

Injured
Bart Bryant
returns with
senior debut
❯❯ Damaged hands
and wrists, even in
this age of medical
miracles, some-
times don’t have
happy endings for
professional golfers
dependent on them
to make a living. Af-
ter two significant
surgeries on his left
wrist and a couple
of years of being
sidelined, Bart Bry-
ant wondered if he
would ever be inside
the ropes again.
And if he came
back, he thought
it might be only a
token return.
“Hitting balls is
pretty much out
of the window for
now, and if I overdo
things it gets pretty
painful,” Bryant said.
“I want to play as
many events as my
health will allow. I
don’t know what that
number is yet. But
just being out here
is huge bonus.”
