The Web.com Tour Finals, aka the new Q school,
effectively give players four events (not one)
to win a 2013-14 tour card—but not everyone likes the system
christened its new playoff series on its developmental
circuit, the Web.com Tour Finals, a few underlings at
tour headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., were said
to have had to stifle a laugh over the realization that a
reference to the series by acronym yields unfortunate
Oh, well, growing pains have to be anticipated with
just about any new venture, especially one of such a
delicate nature. The forerunner to this concept, the FedEx
Cup Playoffs, has undergone a series of adjustments—
including a slight alteration to the name—since its inception in 2007.
It’s likely to undergo further revisions for 2014 (Bunker, Sept. 9).
